For those suffering from gastroesophageal reflux, eating can stop being a pleasure. In fact, the disease is a bad digestion and a rise in gastric juices from the stomach to the esophagus. Digestive substances, when in contact with the esophageal walls, cause the burning and sense of acidity typical of the disease.
One of the causes responsible for gastritis is the bad lifestyle: smoking, alcohol abuse, and bad eating habits.
Although in the most severe cases it is necessary to use a drug therapy based on proton pump inhibitors, a first step towards the treatment of the disease and its prevention is the adoption of a healthy diet, poor in fat and heavy foods.
Based on the advice of the Italian Association of Gastroenterologists and Hospitals Endoscopers, here are the foods that cannot be missed in the ideal diet to combat gastroesophageal reflux (and what to avoid).
Foods of fibers to help digestion
The dietary fiber will speed up the transit of food in the digestive tract and, subsequently, the disposal by the intestine stomach. Therefore, if you suffer from gastroesophageal reflux, experts recommend eating in large quantities, several times during the day and under various forms: whole grains, vegetables, fruit (non-acidic), and legumes.
Bananas and carrots against stomach burner
One of the typical symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux is heartburn. A natural remedy, in this case, is the intake of plants with emollient properties such as bananas, carrots, potatoes, cabbages, which offer concrete and immediate help against inflammation.
Cabbage in particular also performs a healing action of the esophagus mucosa, irritated by contact with the gastric juices. The experts recommend it to be centrifuged, as it is more effective, to drink before the main meals as natural gastric protection.

Extra virgin olive oil prevents the reflux
The oil has several properties including to suppress digestive symptoms. Its beneficial effects are important especially when it comes from the stomach to the esophagus and bile, the substance produced by the liver for absorption during digestion of fats and vitamins. Precisely because of its natural principles, experts recommend using it raw.

Stop for fatty, alcohol and small spices
Some types of food, however, are absolutely avoided because they irritate the digestive system. First of all spicy spices and sour fruits like citrus fruits, which counteract the action of the mucous membranes and promote gastric secretion.
Not even fat foods like butter and cheese, but also snacks and processed meats. High fat foods slow down gastric emptying: food stays longer in the stomach, tending to swell, increasing chances of reflux.
Finally, it also limits alcohol and exciting drinks such as coffee as they tend to relax the cardiac and alter its normal activity in digestion, promoting the feeling of nausea.
